Travelling Abroad
It is essential that you have your travel Vaccinations well in advance of travelling abroad ideally at least 6-8 weeks before your trip if travelling outside Europe.
Our Practice provides the following travel vaccinations on NHS Prescription:
- Polio
- Typhoid
- Hepatitis A
- Cholera
If you require any other vaccinations that are not listed above; you will have to contact any Private Travel Clinic. You can obtain these numbers from any internet search engine.
Pre-Travel Health Questionnaire
You will need to complete our ‘Pre-Travel Health Questionnaire’ and return this to the practice reception. Once your form has been reviewed by the Practice Nurse, our reception team will contact you with an appointment.
You will be provided with an NHS Prescription for your Vaccinations. You will need to take your prescription to your chosen pharmacy. Please note NHS prescription charges will apply at the pharmacy if you pay for your prescriptions (Prescription charges are for each item not each prescription).
Vaccine Storage
Vaccines must be stored in a validated medical / pharmacy vaccine fridge and not in a domestic fridge. You can bring your vaccine to the practice and the vaccines will be stored in the Practice medical Fridge. You can leave the vaccines in the Pharmacy until the day of your appointment. Please do not take the vaccines home.
If you are unable to wait for our next available travel advice appointment, as advised by the reception staff, then you can attend any Private Travel Clinic, charges will apply at these clinics.
Medication
The NHS accepts responsibility for supplying ongoing medication for temporary periods abroad of up to three months. If a person is going to be abroad for more than three months then only a sufficient supply of their regular medication will be provided to enable them to get to the destination and find an alternative supply.
